Uploading Your Portfolio to Google Finance
Having the ability to monitor your portfolio holdings online is easy to accomplish with Investment Account Manager and Google Finance. To do so, follow these simple steps. Note: if you have any fixed income or option holdings, those are not allowed at this time to be tracked on the Google Finance site.

Uploading Your Portfolio to Google Finance
Having the ability to monitor your portfolio holdings online is easy to accomplish with Investment Account Manager and Google Finance. To do so, follow these simple steps. Note: if you have any fixed income or option holdings, those are not allowed at this time to be tracked on the Google Finance site.
Steps to complete in Investment Account Manager:
- Select the File Menu | Preferences | Internet Sites tab.
- Select the button to Add Web Site.
- For web site name, enter Google Finance.
- For web site address, enter www.google.com/finance.
- Click the Save button, then the Exit button.
- On Investment Account Manager's home page, select the portfolio you would like to track on Google Finance from the Portfolios Listing.
- On Investment Account Manager's home page, select the Portfolio Values Tab.
- On the Portfolio Values Tab, select the Export button located in the upper right portion of the tab header.
- The Windows save window will appear.
- for the field Look in, click on the drop down arrow and select a destination easily located - i.e., your Desktop. This is where the export file will be saved and that you will select from for importing your portfolio file to Google Finance.
- for File name, use the portfolio name or abbreviation.
- Once the export file is created, click on the OK button in the Operation Complete pop-up window.
- On the Investment Account Manager toolbar select the drop down arrow to the right of Web Sites of Interest and select Google Finance.
- Select the green arrow to connect to Google Finance.
Steps to complete in Google:
- If you have previously created a Google finance account, sign-in. If you are new to Google finance, you can now sign-up for a new free account.
- After logging into your account or completing the new sign-up process, select Portfolios from the left panel on the Google finance web site.
- Select the Create a new portfolio located near the upper right margin. If your security software blocks access, allow the "scripted windows" to continue and then click on Create a new portfolio again).
- Enter the name of your new portfolio when prompted in the entry form, then select OK.
- A Google message will now show that this new portfolio is empty. Select Import Transactions located near the upper right margin.
- Google now asks for the file name to import. Select the browse button and locate the file saved in Step 9 above). Select the file and then OK to list the file name and location in the Google Import your portfolio dialog box.
- Select the Preview Import button.
- On the Preview screen, select the column to the right of Shares (4th column) that is currently shown as "Other". Use the drop down to change the column label to "Purchase Price Per Share". Note: the cost basis derived by Google using purchase price might cause slight differences from Investment Account Manager due to Google rounding.
- Scroll down the window to find the Import button and click on Import. You should now be viewing your portfolio. You can next use the Cash Deposit link located at the bottom of the portfolio list to add the current balance of your cash holdings in your account.
That's it... you now can monitor your portfolio and daily price action, corporate news, and other research details for your holdings from anywhere in the world!
